A Gathering: Admonishing Today’s Wayward Youth

heart’s heaviness succumbs
to the ebullience of cheer
when wise men convene
with some pot and some beer

and the conclave corrects
a’fellas’ dubious wrongs
with a portion of parables,
whiskey, weed, and songs

stand tall there young lad
when old men yearn to speak,
this old world’s seraglios
make all our knees weak.

ne’er you mind a killjoy,
nor naysayers in the streets;
even ole doubting Thomas
fell prostrate at His feet.

so trust your life to those
who’ll trust theirs to you,
for barley continues to grow
and grass will always bloom.
