In reading (fourth time actually – just looking deeper) the ‘Tree’ – associated with death and toil.
    – May I assume it was an apple tree, the tree of knowledge – the font of original sin?

May I also assume then that ‘earth’ represents a whole and that ‘soil’ and ‘air’ are the separate halves of ‘earth’ as a whole? ( and further that with the assumption that to be ‘whole’ one needs to have another side to themselves or a partner to be truly ‘whole’?)

    Sod.

    (still reading)

    So – I am also seeing…

‘blood’ – ‘power’ – ‘god’ in the end words of the stanzas.

If read as I have it points to a real world view of how populations are manipulated and coerced by the powers that may be in the name of belief or religion.

No doubt I looked way too hard here.

it was refreshing to see the economy of language in this piece.

    Not a word wasted.

    • Some excellent observations. I created a new category called …experimental… and put this in it. I have some other ideas I’m working on. Trying to concentrate on structure, minimalism (without delving into forms like haiku and the like), and overall poem appearance.

So Elem3ntal is just dealing with the basics of life in this world as i see it. broken into three stanzas, perhaps representing Father, Son and Holy Spirit…

It is just a snippet of life’s basics.

      • Yes – a dear friend and I were discussing the poem today (you will probably hear more about it sometime soon) and we did take note of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit…

So many more things as well – really do like the direction you are heading in here Michael.
