Winter Sprung

Winter sprung suddenly on me
like an asp.
with icy warm venom
she bit me
and chilled my soul
and marrow,
bedding me down
in soft sheets
until Spring awakes.

Interesting that you humanize winter as feminine. I’ve always thought of winter as decidely male. In reading your poem, it was a sublty that kept throwing me off a bit. (Random… I see both spring and summer as feminine… autumn and winter as male. I wonder what it is that sets these perceptions in the mind.)
