summer Raspberries

just don’t allow your heart
to be broken. the lock
for pain is easily

closed. keys lost. hinges
rusted by time and rain.
once you slam this

cast iron door shut
the cold, bitter winds
of ache will never

brush your rosy cheeks
again. protected from
the storms, you will

thrive in your cozy
four by four by four
niche. only the muffled

sounds of those lurking
outside will occasionally
drift in, like the succulent

wisps of raspberry blooms
in mid-summer. how
sweetly you will

long for just one juicy
bite. how sweetly you
will yearn for the outside.

  1. “just don’t allow your heart
    to be broken.”
    SIGH if only…
    “how sweetly you
    will yearn for the outside.”
and you never know you will until you get exactly where you “want” to be, on the inside…
be careful what you wish for…for you will surely get it
    I really love this.
I want to curl up in this poem and sleep safely.
