in these sultry summer evenings
stars beckon, katydids call,
and the damp grass crunches beneath my bare feet.
i hope this one lasts forever

in these long summer days
air swells, afternoons rage,
and the fat, fast rains bring clouds up from the ground.
i hope this one lasts forever

in these misty summer mornings
earth sweats, trees bend,
and the sharp sunbeams carve angles in the air.
i hope this one lasts forever

in these deep summer nights
moon glows, shadows dance,
and your hazel stares linger longer at your pillow.
i hope this one lasts forever
