... poetry ...

August 15

in her eyes, there’s a star
blue, surrounding green, surrounding brown
they flicker and pulse
they glisten and gleam
they cut and pierce and send signals that
shoot and dart and dance in candlelight
and when a stray rock from some distant planet
drifts to close, her orbit draws them in
and burns them to nothing
leaving a streak of light across the sky

in her eyes, there’s a star
and star upon star they burn and burn
and flash into a brilliant end
and despite their blinding brightness
i cannot look away
